Teeth care

A radiant smile is not only a personal mark but also a symbol of health and confidence. To make the dream of a perfect smile come true, dental care plays an extremely important role. Let's learn the most proper way to care for your teeth from The East Rose Dental’s expert advice!

Benefits of good dental care

Proper and regular dental care will bring you many benefits, including:

  • Brings a beautiful smile: Shiny, unstained teeth will help you be confident and convenient in communication.
  • Reduces the likelihood of cavities: Daily care of teeth and gums helps remove plaque and bacteria, prevent the development of cavities, and keep teeth shiny.
  • Improves gum health: By removing biofilm on the gums, good oral care helps prevent gingivitis and periodontitis, keeping the gums healthy.
  • Reduce tooth sensitivity: Healthy tooth enamel and gums help protect teeth from unwanted sensitivity.
  • Prevent bad breath: A healthy mouth not only creates fresh breath but also eliminates the risk of bad breath.
  • Improve overall health: Oral health not only affects the mouth but also the entire body, reducing the risk of diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, Alzheimer's, intestinal disease,...

Mistakes when taking care of your teeth

However, there are some harmful mistakes that if you don't change, your oral health will get worse:

  • Brush your teeth right after eating: Brushing your teeth right after eating is not always good. Acidic foods found in food can harm tooth enamel. You should wait at least 30 minutes after eating for the oral cavity to balance the pH level, then start brushing your teeth.
  • Forgetting to brush your teeth before going to bed: Many people often subjectively think that "it won't be a problem if you don't brush your teeth just once", or because they are afraid of cold weather, they oversleep. However, this is a golden opportunity for bacteria to grow strongly in the oral cavity while sleeping, causing tooth decay and gum disease.
  • Brushing too hard: Brushing too hard can damage gums and erode tooth enamel. Brush gently and with proper technique.
  • Brushing your teeth too many times a day: Just brushing your teeth twice a day is enough. Brushing too much can damage tooth enamel.
  • Not removing tartar regularly: Tartar is formed from leftover food and bacteria in the mouth. These brown plaques cannot be cleaned with a regular brush. Not having your teeth cleaned regularly can lead to gingivitis, periodontitis, and worse, tooth loss.
  • Improper cleaning of your toothbrush: Clean your toothbrush properly by soaking it in mouthwash and replacing it periodically.

How to properly care for your teeth?

Choosing a toothbrush:

  • Prioritize choosing a toothbrush with soft bristles or as recommended by your dentist.
  • Change toothbrush every 3-4 months.

Brush your teeth scientifically:

  • Use toothpaste containing fluoride to prevent tooth decay and protect tooth enamel.
  • Brush your teeth gently in a circular motion, including the inside and outside of the teeth.
  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day for about 2-3 minutes each time.
  • After brushing your teeth, spit out the toothpaste and rinse your mouth with clean water.

Use mouthwash:

  • Choose a mouthwash that contains fluoride and does not contain alcohol.
  • Use after brushing your teeth and no more than 2-3 times per day.
  • Rinse with mouthwash for about 30 seconds to kill bacteria in the mouth.
  • Do not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after using mouthwash.

Apply a suitable diet and limit smoking:

  • Limit consumption of sweets and carbonated drinks.
  • Avoid smoking, because smokers often have more teeth and gum problems due to the substances in cigarettes.

Perform regular dental check-ups:

  • Follow your dentist's recommended dental checkup schedule, usually every 6 months.
